Higher Education Entrepreneurship Programming
I can empathize with collegiate entrepreneurs because I too was an aspiring entrepreneur while attending college. After college, I moved to New York City where I got a job at a startup whose customers were, well, startups. We scaled the business quickly and, within a couple of years, thousands of startups were going through our processes on a weekly basis. Over the next 10 years I saw a ton of businesses succeed and, unfortunately, even more that didn’t. After that, I founded a business coaching and startup services company called The Startup Expert where I learned even more from new venture founders all over the world, in just about every industry. I then spent several years colleges and universities where I coached and mentored new venture founders and created innovative co-curricular programming with the goal of presenting them with a practical perspective that is deeply in tune with the real world. My background as an entrepreneur and almost two decades of experience providing business services to hundreds of thousands of startups have afforded me knowledge, resources, and connections about what to the do’s and don’ts of starting a business. Today, I work in the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa’s John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center as the Manager of Operations.
Mentoring & Coaching for Students
Entrepreneurs need mentors. They probably have achieved what the entrepreneur is seeking and can give valuable insight into how to climb to that next plateau or break out of your rut. Mentors generally have a lot of resources and the best ones will tap into their networks for a good mentee who they believe in. A good mentor is worth their weight in gold, but they are no substitute for a coach.
Mentors Celebrate Your Achievements, Coaches Hold You Accountable and Celebrate Your Achievements
One of the jobs of a great coach is to set deadlines and milestones and hold you accountable to meet them. They understand that their job isn’t to be your friend, but a valuable resource that will push you to get to the next level. Coaches aren’t afraid to get into the trenches. They will tell you uncomfortable truths about your business and give constructive criticism and a kick in the rear when you need it. As a coach and mentor my job is to help entrepreneurs advance through the stages of starting a business and to achieve their goals quickly and efficiently. Mentoring and coaching are only two of the ways I help higher ed entrepreneurship programs and the businesses they serve.
Services
Certificate or Course Creation
More and more people are turning to entrepreneurship certificates and courses for personal development. As the demand increase and the market expands, I help schools with the design, development, and implementation, of these certificates and courses and can even help deliver or teach the new material.
Bootcamps
I offer various boot camps to teach aspiring entrepreneurs the skills they need to start and grow their own businesses. Bootcamps typically last 4 – 6 weeks or over two full days. During that time, participants learn the practice of entrepreneurship from experienced entrepreneurs and business experts and experiential learning by applying what they are learning to the thing they’re starting. They also get plenty of opportunities to network with other like-minded individuals!
Mentoring
As a mentor, I provide students with the knowledge and tools they need to get their business off the ground and teach them to become better entrepreneurs. I empower them to make their own decisions and take control of their own businesses. My ultimate goal is to help students learn how to start and grow their own businesses. I’m here to help you every step of the way, from brainstorming ideas to showing students how to implement strategies and reach their target market.
One-on-One & Team Coaching
I help students develop a tailored plan that meets their specific needs and helps them achieve their goals. I coach them through everything from developing their business idea and refining their elevator pitch, to marketing and sales strategies, to financial planning and raising capital. They’ll quickly understand the importance of MVP, data-driven decisions, done is better than perfect, customer feedback, and work ethic as I help them progress through the stages of business.
Guest Lecturing & Speaking
As an experienced entrepreneur, I provide valuable insights and advice on starting and running a successful business. My goal is to inspire students to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and to provide them with the tools they need to succeed. Competition Preparation
Winning first place in a pitch competition isn’t easy, but it isn’t difficult either. Like, the entrepreneurial process, there’s a formula to having an amazing pitch! I help students prepare for pitch and business plan competitions by reviewing business plans and financials, assisting with a good story for the pitch itself, helping with pitch decks, and teaching them how to present themselves in the best light possible.
Workshops
Pick a business topic. I probably cover it in one of my workshops. If I don’t let me know and I will! I cover everything from choosing the right business structure and registering your company, to marketing and sales strategies, value proposition, pricing, financial planning, and everything between. My goal is to help students avoid some of the common pitfalls that can trip up new businesses, and set them up for long-term success.
